Friday Photo - Murals in Orgosolo - in Sardinia

Today I'm joining in with the Friday photo at Delicious Baby to bringing you a photo from my travels with a story behind it.

This summer we visited Sardinia for our family holiday and one of the highlights was seeing the murals in the mountain village of Orgosolo. This village had a history of blood feuds and banditry but lately has been attracting visitors because of its street art or Murales that are found all around the village.

Murales at Orgosolo

They started as a project in the local high school and many, including the one above were painted by the talented artist,Francesco Del Casino, who taught in the school for many years and was influenced by Picasso. True to the village's past reputation for dissent, many of the murals are on themes of protest and social injustice. My favourites, however were these voluptuous ladies, gossiping in a back street - they added a smile to my day.

Your ladies look pretty confidently serene in this photo, in spite of the unrest that might surround them.
Fun photo. Thanks for sharing!

I love those ladies! I live in a small city in China that has been growing like crazy in recent years. You can tell they are getting to that point where public art might start to be important - there are few sculptures here and there, they're building a culture street for restaurants - I can't wait to see what they come up with. Thanks for sharing this photo!

Wouldn't expect so heavy breasted art from a teacher taking part in a school project. Where I live ladies big like that only zipped up would slaughter that guy;)

What a great find! Were you following a walking tour, or did you just chance past these as you wandered?

I love this mural! And the photo!

I'm a big fan of murals - and graffiti also - as you probably guessed from your visit to Cool Travel Guide yesterday (that one was taken in Crete). I'm going to pop up these extraordinary murals here in Alice Springs where we're doing some researching for a couple of books at the moment - they're amazing!

I can't wait to read your posts on Sardinia - it's one place I've always wanted to go but haven't had a chance yet.
